History of the project “ARTscape”:
Public company ”Kino pavasaris” is the professional institution which has a long experience in organizing cinema events (including biggest cinema event in Lithuania – Vilnius International Film Festival). Experience of the organization assures that events are professional and relevant to the audience.
The organizers of the project “Kino pavasaris” are among the most qualified cultural institutions in Lithuania, having long time experience of cultural activity and that is a guarantee of quality of all events planned for the project.
The aim of the project “ARTscape” is clear – to present film programmes and film professionals from different European countries. Residents and guests of Vilnius city have an opportunity to see the best and most interesting movies acclaimed by audience or film critics of presented counties.

Since January, 2009 project presented these countries: Finland, Estonia, Austria, Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, France, Ireland, Poland, Denmark, Latvia and Turkey.

The project was very successful and received a lot of public attention. It was decided to continue “ARTscape” project in 2011 presenting culture of Iceland, Sweden and Norway by presenting the retrospective of movies of these countries.

Project „ARTscape” invites audience to dive into the Nordic cultural rhythms. Three different film programmes will outline the diagrams of the dynamic cultural changes in the Nordic countries that still are undiscovered for Lithuanian spectators.

Programme and repertoire


In collaboration with Norwegian Film Institute (NFI) and Embassy of Norway in Lithuania, ARTscape project presents five Norwegian films. The program will start with drama "Ice Kiss" by Knut Erik Jensen, who will introduce the film himself. One more guest will participate at the event and will introduce Lithuanian viewers to Norwegian cinema. He's Executive Director of Norwegian Film Institute - Jan Erik Holst. "Ice Kiss" is a poetic love story based on Gunvor Galtung Haavik's double life. During the Cold War, she was employed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and assigned to the Norwegian Embassy in Moscow. Another film "Pathfinder" by Nils Gaup is based on a 12th-century legend. It is filled with action and is the first feature production ever to be shot in the Sami language. "Insomnia" by Erik Skjoldbj¿rg is a contemporary thriller with dramatic turns and unexpected results. Petter N¿ss’ comedy drama "Elling" recently was one of the most succesfull features abroad. Elling is a man, who after two years spent in mental clinic is set to return to an apparently normal everyday life. The Norwegian Film program will end with "North" by Rune Denstad Langlo. It is a road movie comedy set in romantic natural surroundings. It is the story of the athlete Jomar who has isolated himself in a sad and lonely existence after having a mental crises, but weird expedition pushes Jomar further ahead on his reluctant journey towards reality.

Programme and repertoire


ARTscape project continues and this time in collaboration with Swedish Film Institute will be presented a Swedish film program which will consist of five feature films and will be screened at Skalvija Film Center. The program will launch on the 9th of September with a film A Swedish Love Story by Roy Andersson. Before the screening there will be a possibility to learn more about films and Swedish cinema in general form the Swedish Film Institute representative Jan Göransson. A Swedish Love Story is a tender love story between two teenagers and pessimistic portrait of the adult world. It was inspired by Czech New Wave and was screened at the 20th Berlin International Film Festival. I Am Curious (Yellow) is a film by Vilgot Sjoman. When it was released film became famous for its sex scenes, however the biggest director‘s concern was social equality and that is why I Am Curious (Yellow) remains relevant today. Three other films will introduce to the present day directors. Director Thomas Alfredson is already known to Lithuanian audience for its internationally acclaimed horror film Let the Right One In. His earlier tragicomedy Four Shades of Brown investigates Sweden and Swedish culture. Falkenberg Farewell by young director Jesper Ganslandt will tell a story of four young friends who do not want to enter the adult world. Also there will be one more opportunity to see The Girl by Frederik Edfeldt. This film was considered to be the best Swedish feature in 2009. All films will be screened free of charge.

Programme and repertoire
In collaboration with Icelandic Film Centre ARTscape project will present six Icelandic feature films. There will be screened two films of one of the most famous Icelandic film director Fridrik Thór Fridriksson. His drama „Angels of the Universe“ will tell a story of a young man who was institutionalized. This film was compared to Miloð Forman “One Flew Over Cuckoo’s Nest”. His other film “Cold Fever” is a story of a young foreigner who suddenly had to come to Iceland instead of Hawaii and how he goes on a very difficult journey to find out something important about himself. Film “As in Heaven” by Kristín Jóhannesdóttir will bring back to 1936 to a desolate farm which is believed to be cursed since the 14th century. There also will be screened two films by a young and promising director Robert I. Douglas. His feature „Eleven Men Out“ is a story of gay guys football team who are trying to play football in a straight world. His other film „The Icelandic Dream“ is about young man Toti who has a lot of problems, but has one card left to play: he‘s the only importer of Bulgarian cigaretes which are made from illicit substance. Sóveig Anspach in her film „Stormy Weather“ explores the close relationship between a psychiatrist Cora and a mysterious, uncommunicative patient. All films will be screened free of charge at cinema theatre “Skalvija”, Goðtauto str. 2/15, Vilnius.
